1888 IRELAND Luke Gerald Dillon, (later 4th Baron Clonbrock) CLONBROCK HOUSE, Ahascragh, writing on behalf of his father the 3rd Baron Clonbrock to General Sir Martin Dillon, returning his interesting papers which were sent to his father.
Luke Gerald Dillon, 4th Baron Clonbrock KP PC (Ire) (10 March 1834 – 12 May 1917) was an Irish peer.
In 1865, he was appointed High Sheriff of County Galway.[1] He became Baron Clonbrock in 1893 on the death of his father Robert Dillon, 3rd Baron Clonbrock and was appointed a Knight of the Order of St Patrick on 29 August 1900.
He married Augusta Caroline Crofton, daughter of Edward Crofton, 2nd Baron Crofton of Mote and Lady Georgina Paget, on 18 July 1866 at Roscommon, County Roscommon, Ireland. [3] As a result of her marriage, Hon. Augusta Caroline Crofton was styled as Baroness Clonbrock on 4 December 1893.
The finding aid of the collection related to the personal and political papers of the family of Dillon, Barons Clonbrock, Ahascragh (county Galway, c.1600-1960) was compiled by Stephen Ball, at the National Library of Ireland.

Clonbrock House
was designed by William Leeson for Robert Dillon, the 3rd Baron Clonbrock, and constructed from 1780-1788 to replace the old castle which stood on the site. Unusually, it remained in the possession of the Dillon family for almost 200 years. Sold in 1976 when the last member of the Clonbrock family, Miss Ethel Dillon, moved out, the contents of the house were auctioned off. The National Library of Ireland acquired the estate papers in the auction, a valuable insight into the management of a large Irish country house. A fire blazed through the house in 1984, destroying the intricately detailed interior. Though now ruined, this imposing country house retains its sense of grandeur and the high level of design and craftsmanship is evident in the remaining fabric, such as the ornate entrance porch and the finely tooled stone window surrounds. It is an important part of the social and architectural heritage of the area.
