    Description

RARE AND STUNNING CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES POSTER FOR SERGT ARCHIBALD HENDERSON.
The outer dimensions of the frame are 22.8" by 16.8", and the dimensions inside the glass (which are short of the total dimensions of the poster alone) are 19.5" by 13.8".  This is a standard "Patriotic-Poster-of-the-Day" where a photo was attached to the stock poster and the Soldier's information was printed thereon.  I can find three examples of this poster format online for different soldiers; one of them was for a sale listing from which I got the title, "Patriotic-Poster-of-the-Day".  The individual memorialized on this poster was "Sergt. Archibald Henderson" of the 34th Fort Garry Horse, C.E.F. "C" Squadron no. 551202.  I was able to obtain an official record of this individual from the Government of Canada "Canadian Virtual War Memorial" online site, and from the page of Archibald Henderson, I clipped some  screen shots of his service information, and of a newspaper clipping found on that page providing a photo which looks to be the same one in this frame.  This obituary included a brief history of his service, noting his enlistment in the 34th Fort Garry Horse.
I don't know if the wooden frame is period, but the mounting of the poster by the "European War Photo Mount Agency" of "Neville & Bennet" almost certainly is.  The poster is "Copyrighted 1915 by Chas. A. Neville" - noted on bottom right hand corner of the poster.
The poster beneath the glass of the frame looks to be in EXCELLENT CONDITION.  PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO AVOID REFLECTIONS OFF THE GLASS FRAME IN NORMAL LIVING ROOM PHOTOGRAPHY.  There wooden frame and glass were wiped down for dust prior to taking the photos.  There is a little soiling beneath the glass, either on the glass or poster (or both) around the edges, but no marks or tears.  The B&W photo is a bit blurry but it definitely looks like the same photo used in the online obituary.  The wooden frame does have some scrapes/small chips as seen in the listing photos.
The poster will be stored and shipped wrapped in shrink, and amply padded with bubble wrap.
A RARE AND VERY CLEAN AND ATTRACTIVE WORLD WAR I CANADIAN "PATRIOTIC POSTER" FOR A SOLDIER OF THE CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES.
