    Canadian WW1 CEF Medal Pair to McLauchlan, Dundee, 14th Bn, who sailed on The Llandovery Castle on her final outbound voyage to Canada

    John McLauchlan was born at Dundee, Scotland on 15th October 1888 and was a Caretaker living in Montreal when he attested on 12th Jan 1917. He was medically discharged in 1918 after receiving a GSW to his left shoulder on 6th Nov. 1917. He returned to Canada on the ill-fated Llandovey castle on 6th June 1918, on the 27 June, she was
    torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat (U-86). Of the 258 crew and passengers, only 24 survived. This took place
    off Southern Ireland on the 27th June 1918 which was her return journey back to the UK from the very last outbound voyage which John was on carrying wounded soldiers back home to Canada.
    John was not aboard when she was sunk, ..fortunately for him, he was in Canada at the time.
