John Emdon Sproule was born on 7th September 1893 in Digby, Nova Scotia. After gaining his M.Sc. Degree at McGill in 1916, he joined the Canadian Engineers as a Lieutenant on 25th October 1916 having seen two years service with McGill University C.O.T.C. He served with the 9th Bn. C.E. (per McGill University Roll of Honour). His service file is available on-line for free at Library and Archives Canada.
He died on 11/02/1979, aged 85 and is buried at York Cemetery, Toronto
